Wine and Marriage
Wine and Marriage
If you have been married for any length of time, then you know your marriage can be tested at times. If you have a problem-free marriage, then you are a rare breed! I have been married to the same man for almost 40 years! We came from different church denominations, different financial backgrounds, different social environments, and different generations of parents!
I was inspired by the Lord to write this illustration about what marriage is while I was preparing to publish my first bible study called In the Beginning: Genesis 1-11.
I would like to share this excerpt with you because I believe it perfectly describes the process of building a strong marriage! My husband and I enjoy cooking, entertaining friends, and we know a little about wine! Here is what the Lord inspired me to write in lesson 11 of In the Beginning: Genesis 1-11.
“It takes years for two peoples lives to meld into one. There is a lot of give and take and growing and maturing to be done in a relationship. There are five basic steps to producing a fine bottle of wine! You could say producing a great married life is very similar.
First, you must harvest your mate. Second, you must go through a crushing and pressing process. This gets all the unrealistic ideas of what marriage is out of your mind. Thirdly, there is a fermentation that occurs. You both change from being selfish individuals to being selfless mates. Fourth, you get a real clarity about what true marriage is and the benefits of a life partner; a true soul mate. And fifth, you age together! This process produces a fine marriage that has stood the test of time and is well worth the wait and work it took to produce it!”
I would love for you to leave a comment! How has this blog post encouraged or inspired you in your marriage?
